Meet the teachers....

Jamie Cooke
Jamie teaches Biology at Mercer Island High school in Mercer Island, Washington.  He worked in Ken Mackie’s lab at the University of Washington inserting a red fluorescent protein into a protein which acts upon cannabinoid receptors.
Project Description.
Debby Jacobson
Debby is a teacher at Meadowdale Middle School in the Edmonds School District. While working in the UW lab of Dr. Debbie Nickerson, Debby researched patterns in fixed base differences between human and primate DNA with a focus on 164 genes involved in cell cycle control and DNA repair mechanisms.
Project Description.
Connie Kelly
Connie teaches Chemistry and Biotechnology at Shorewood High School in Shoreline, Washington.  She worked with Jim Wager-Miller and Matt Wallace in Ken Mackie’s lab at the University of Washington troubleshooting an antibody used in the study of a protein involved in the metabolism of anandamide, an endogenous cannabinoid produced by mammals.

Samantha Ketover
Samatha teaches at Kentridge High School in Kent, Washington. This summer she worked with Dr. Jeanette Norris and Tatiana Masters of the UW's Alcohol and Drug Abuse Institute to examine the relationship between a woman's alcohol consumption and her perception of risk in a sexual assault scenario.

Toni Roberts
Toni teaches at Shorewood High School in the Shoreline School District. This summer she worked in the lab of Dr. Ken Thummel in the UW Department of Pharmaceutics studying cytochrome p450 enzymes and drug metabolism.
Project Description.
Martha Strachan
Martha Strachan is a student in the Master of Science in Biology for Teachers program at the University of Washington. She worked with Dr. Nephi Stella and Allyn Franklin in Dr. Stella’s lab characterizing an in vitro astrocyte primary culture system for use in the study of the CB1 cannabinoid receptor in the brain.
