Dan Gallagher
Dan teaches
Biology and IB Biology at Interlake High School in Bellevue,
Washington. In Debbie Nickerson’s lab at the University of
Washington, Dan identified and
characterized DNA sequence polymorphisms that may account for
differences between individuals’ ability to taste the bitter
compound PTC. Project

Patricia Hunkins
Patricia is a first year teacher at
the International School in Bellevue, Washington. Patricia worked in the
University of Washington lab of Dr. Nephi Stella researching the effect of endogenous and
exogenous cannabinoids on the activity of microglial cells.

Patrick Lindsay
Patrick teaches biology at Holy
Names Academy, a private Catholic school in Seattle. He spent the
StarNet experience working with Dr. Danny Shen and Linda Risler at
Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, assaying the content of
different St. John's Wort supplements.

Michael O'Byrne
Michael teaches Biology and
Physics at Interlake High School in Bellevue, Washington. He
worked with Dr. Roger Roffman in the Innovative Programs Research
Group of the UW School of Social Work on " The Sex Check-Up," a
randomized controlled study evaluating a motivational enhancement
intervention promoting HIV risk-reduction among Men who have Sex

Bryan Robles
Bryan teaches at Issaquah High
in Issaquah, Washington. In Ken Mackie's lab at the University of
Washington, Bryan studied the interaction of cannabinoids with
their cellular receptors.

Tia Thiel
Tia teaches chemistry at Mercer
Island High in Mercer Island, Washington. She worked with Dr.
Jeanette Norris and Tatiana Masters of the UW Alcohol and Drug
Abuse Institute to examine the effects of alcohol consumption on
women’s ability to perceive risk cues associated with acquaintance
sexual assaults and their responses to these assaults.
